About the Photo Archive
The Kaiser photo and paper archives are housed in WSU's Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections  (MASC). The photo archive is referred to in MASC as  PC-71 and contains over 10,000 photographs and slides.  A listing of the file folder topics used by Kaiser (and retained by MASC) is available online through MASC in the form of a finding aid.  Also listed are the image formats (aerial photo, standard photo, slide) and the number of items within the folder.

The unique photo number that was given to each image in the creation of this database retains Kaiser's folder number.   The photo identification number is organized as follows:  PC71 - ### - $$$, where PC71 refers to the collection number, ### is the folder number (expressed as three digits) and $$$ is the image number within the photo.  As an example, PC71-140-001 is the first photo in folder 140 of the PC71 collection.

In addition to the image collection held by MASC, Kaiser's documents were also donated to the University and have a separate collection number (Cage 527).  For additional information about these or other collections held by MASC contact them directly.

We have set up the online image database to allow searching  on a number of fields, including such things as subject, year, location, photographer,   We are currently working on final arrangement of the database, and fields are subject to change as we proceed.  The search page is in a preliminary form, but allows searching in a variety of ways.

In its current form, upon selecting a keyword from a pull-down listing, the user sees a series of thumbnail images of the search results in the left frame.  (The right frame will have a text description of that keyword.) Clicking on one of the thumbnail images will load a higher resolution (approximately 800x600) version of that image plus the image caption and other identifying information.  For example, the date, location, photographer, original caption, etc.  We'd also like to have an intermediate size image that will load more quickly than the 800x600 version, but that is under development.  In the meantime, only the 800x600 version is available.  Check back for further enhancements.
